Heidelberg

I am on a workshop in Heidelberg, and here IS cold! 

Not cold like Amsterdam last week, when we had a thin layer of snow, during one day, on the streets, but colder with a really *thick* layer of snow on the floor, and on the roofs too, that last for days... (before I arrive and still here)
It is so cold that when on the train station, at night, outside, I was afraid my feet were going to freeze down! And this because I am using thick thick socks and velvet boots with "warm" inside!

Anyway... despite the cold, today was a very bright sunny day... the city looks cute... I have galeria in front of my hotel, the room is amazing AND the workshop looks good!

But... I need to say something about MPI... I though Ilha do Fundão was in the middle of nowhere... well, it is an island (ilha) but MPI IS is the middle of nowhere.. so in the middle that only ONE bus goes until there... and with very specific times... and with no way out (unless you have car or call a cab) after 7pm! 

Comparing now... Ilha do Fundão is in the middle of the city!!! hahahahah (well... it is an University city... )

The Historian

Miruna borrowed me a book, "The Historian"... she told me it was about vampires and she though I would like it...

She thought right! I LOVE IT!!!

I like the book so much I bought one for myself (I have a tendency to read in the bath... and let my books wet... and get soap on it... so I couldn't risk ruining a borrowed book ;-) )

I am in the second part, chapter 30!!! And it is so sad every time I had to stop reading!

It just keep you reading... 

You have the fiction, the mystery and the history... told you buy two different narrators, in all different times of the history and you have letters too...

I Love it! and I advise anyone who likes either vampires, mystery or history to try it too ;-)

"... It was typical winter day... the sensation was almost freezing cold, but still nice, and warming up with the walk... a thick fog all around... but still a good view around she... and there she goes... walking to the bus stop... too cold bike... the walk is short and then the bus ride not too long either... and the she goes on her way to work.

"But there is something different about this cold fog day... as she walks all around her is just movements... slow movements... almost gracious dance movements according with her choice of background sound...

"Yes... this is how it is suppose to be... a nice walk, and no 

outside noise... just her, her thoughts... and her music."

Yep... her is me! :P

No outside noise: I have new headphones!!! :-D

I love my new headphones!!! They are amazing!!! You don't hear anything besides your sound!

It is just so great! (maybe a bit danger... if you don't pay attention on the street... I can't bike with those...) but to walk... great! trucks, buses and trams... I didn't hear a thing! (or maybe a thing... but not fully it!)

And in my office! I barely knew my office mate was there... and believe me... he is kind of noise... 

Great!

snow

It is a year that I live in Amsterdam now.... and I can tell you, this january is a lot different than the last one... And I like it!!!
Last January just rained all the time... it was cold and wet and windy... was horrible!!!! :-O
This one, is probably colder than last year BUT is not rainy! It has a lot less wind and lots of clear days!!!
The day before yesterday we even had a warm sun! (warm if you are in the sun but inside somewhere... hehehe)

Well... and the best! Yesterday I woke up and it was all white! Nice... as a proper winter should be! :-D (last year I only say snow in April.... )

If it keeps going like this... maybe during summer it will be hot more than only day, like last year :-P

back to work

New Year is here!
but somethings don't change... and after the end/begin of year parties, is time to come back to work!

Today is the first working day of the year for me, and for lots of other people too (of course... I am not complaining... some people never stopped :P)... anyway... I am back at nikhef!
And, since my weather forecast from my laptop decided to lie to me and tell it was 4C, instead of -4!!! :-O I came by bike!!!

I was freezing all my way to here!!! And still has the way back! Cold freezing wind and slippery floor!!! :-O OHMYGOD!!!!
And now... I find out tomorrow will vary between -7C and -14C!!! :-O

well... not need to know... if someone see a ball rolling down to science park amsterdam, tomorrow, is me!!! :P

But... when I go back home, everything light up... even in the cold early dark days of Amsterdam...

which season are we?

The winter is suppose to start only around the 20 of December and this is just the first week of it!!!But, it is not only cold!!! All the nice cute fall trees are already dead! The lasted too short!

Today I came in to work with my camera to make some pictures of the cute yellow leaves but they are all gone... and all trees have that dead look on them!
I feel in one of those horror movies! With dead trees, gray sky and crows!!!

Anyway... at least I was able to make a pictures of a rainbow today... 
I've took this pictures from my living room... just after killing a spider that wanted to nest in my favorite boot!!! (burn in hell for that you stupid spider!!! :P ) and before started raining making my ride to work a "refreshing" one!!!

The weather today is completely crazy!
Blue sky, rainbow, gray sky, rain and blue again!!!

I am a physicist

So... to make my lunch time more interesting I've watched the Big Bang Theory... (I did need!!! My lunch was one of those noodles package and just kill time while the bank wasn't open yet!)... anyway...

In this episode (2.08) Leonard has this new girlfriend and they are having dinner together (and getting ready for the desert...) when she asks him: "How was your work today?"

And, for my entertainment he answers:

"I am a physicist... so thought about stuff..."

she asks: "really? that's all?"

For what he answers:

"Some of them I wrote it down!"

I couldn't have my work described better!
Plus... is a plus on the "I read and wrote emails!"

So... excuse me my fellow readers... but I need to think some stuff more... and maybe I will even write them down ;-)

My name is Ana Carolina and I am addicted... to mahjong!

Winter is here...

... in fact, I am not sure that it is already winter officially, but I am hoping it is... cause I can't get colder than this!

It's 5C now! And every night when I bike back from work with my ears freezing (only that... cause gladly I have awesome gloves and the rest of the body gets warmed up by the biking exercise...) it's around 2C with "frozen" car's windows and deep dark as if it was something like 3am...

BUT I have something good to say about winter! No... I am not going to say that I like winter better than summer!!! I love sun... and if sweat is a side effect... nothing that a few more showers can't solve it... :-P

Anyway... the good thing is that, if is NOT raining... bike is much nicer!!!!

Yes, it is true! 

I was biking to work yesterday... it was a clear day... I had my leather jacket... warm boots and gloves... soon enough I was enjoying my ride... and THE MOST IMPORTANT... there are NO insects flying in your direction, aiming to your eye!!! Biking in winter IS much better! :-D

Other nice thing... IF doesn't rain, is that the wind doesn't blow that much harder as during middle seasons!!!

So... despite the fact that is cold (but nothing that a few more clothes won't solve it :-P IF it doesn't rain) and that soon I need to find a better hat (otherwise my ears are going to froze) I am, in fact, enjoying this begin of winter! Even the biking around!

(but if it rains... or I hibernate or I need better transportation than my bike...)
